Paul Massie

Paul MassiePaul Massie is a fully certified, National level 4 gymnastics coach with over 30 years of competitive gymnastics coaching experience. Paul has 4 University Degrees, including a Bachelor of Physical Education, and is working on his Masters. He has coached many National Team members and coached 1992 world team member Sara Markel. He also received the 1999 Coach of the year award at the National Championships. Paul was the coaching chairperson for Gymnastics BC from 1987-1994 and is also a course conductor. Paul has been coaching for Flip City since September 2001. He is currently the Technical Advisor for the Men's program and also coaches the competitive girls a few hours a week......as well as developing our Pre-Comp boys. Paul's knowledge and experience are a wonderful asset our Pre-Comp and Competitive programs.


Nicole Hopkins

Nicole HopkinsNicole Hopkins, Co-Head Women's Director for Flip City's Competitive Program is a fully certified level 2 coach in gymnastics (she has taken both of the required level 3 courses and is currently working to complete them). Nicole has been working for Rusty at Flip City since it opened in 1998, and loves the unique and wonderful atmosphere that has been created in our gym. She coaches the Pre-Competitive Girls program, as well as levels 1-5 with the prestigious 'Competitive Team' at Flip City. She has been coaching competitive gymnastics, dance and choreography for 14 years. Nicole has been involved in competitive dance, for more than 10 years, and also choreographed cheerleading for Brookswood's high school's cheerleading team, when she was a member for 4 years. Nicole was later a cheerleader for the BC Lions Cheer Team in 1999/2000. She competed in gymnastics at a Provincial level for 4 years...guess who her former and FAVORITE coach was...Rusty Pierce, owner of Flip City Gymnastics! Nicole is thrilled to be coaching all of the talented and spirited young athletes, alongside her wonderful coaching partner Marc, and looks forward to developing and inspiring current athletes, as well as future young gymnasts to come! Nicole's hard work and dedication to her athletes and to Flip City make her a valuable member of our coaching staff.


Arlee Schmidt

Arlee SchmidtArlee Schmidt Is a fully certified level 2 coach in gymnastics, and also a level 3 trampoline coach. Arlee has been coaching for 23 years and teaches everything from recreational gymnastics and trampoline programs for boys and girls to adult classes, as well the Prov. "C" Competitive Trampoline and Double Mini-Tramp Team. Arlee has been working for Flip City since it opened in 1998. She loves teaching children because they have so much enthusiasm and energy which she feels is so important to learning and developing new skills. She really respects the athletes that continue to work really hard at each and every practice. Arlee is known to all athletes as the "prize lady." She encourages many athletes to try new things and upon success, or sometimes just a lot of effort, she rewards them with a prize of some sort, which the kids always look forward to. Her other hobbies are collecting key chains of all shapes and sizes. Arlee has 3 sons aged 29, 28, 24 and has two grandchildren. She is a tough but loving coach, who appreciates hard work and thoroughly enjoys her chosen profession. Arlee is a kindhearted and valued coach at Flip City.


Sue Pierce

Flip City Gymnastics owner, have been involved with the sport of gymnastics all their lives. Sue was a member of the Canadian National gymnastics team from 1968 to 1973, and competed in the 1970 World Gymnastics Championships and the 1972 Olympic Games, as well as several other international competitions. She has been the Canadian University Gymnastics Champion, winning every event and the all-around title. After her competitive career was over, Sue graduated from York University in Toronto with a degree in psychology, with a minor in physical education. After graduation from York, she attained her BC Teacher's Certificate after a year long program at Simon Fraser University. She has been honoured with induction into the York University Athletic Hall of Fame, and this past year, she was awarded a lifetime membership in the Ontario Gymnastics Federation, where she trained during her competitive career.

Sue has become a specialist in pre-school age children, and Rusty spends most of his coaching time with the trampoline athletes in the gym. In order to run an efficient, well-rounded program, Flip City has hired several top-quality coaches, who are specialists in different areas. See our section on instructors to meet the staff.


Angela Cowling

Angela CowlingAngela Cowling is a fully certified Level 1 coach in gymnastics and trampoline, and has been coaching at Flip City since 2001. She is currently coaching pre-school and recreational classes. Angela is the creator behind the unique crafts for the pre-school "theme" camps during the summer months. Angela grew up as a "backyard enthusiast" and after watching her two daughters take part in classes at the gym, the gymnastics "urge" came back and she got certified soon after that. Angela loves working with kids of all ages. Angela's energy and creative talents make her an asset to our programs!

Kathy Davidson

Kathy DavidsonKathy has been coaching pre-school and recreational gymnastics at Flip City for 10 years. She is kind and patient and the kids enjoy her classes. Kathy runs the Pre-school program and the Summer Theme Camps.
